Into The Abyss Fest III

Tras un comienzo de año mas calmado de lo que estoy acostumbrado a nivel de conciertos, llegaba el mes de marzo y parecía que comenzaban a despertar  los conciertos (al menos para mi).

After a calm start of the year than I’m used to regarding concerts, the month of March arrived and it seemed that the metal circuit was beginning to awake (at least for me).

Y esto me permitió acercarme a la bella ciudad de Wroclaw para estar presente por primera vez en el festival Into The Abyss Fest III que reunía a una buena cantidad de grupos del underground metálico recogiendo algunos grupos de los que se acercaron al Netherlands Deathfest y juntándolos con otros grupos polacos y alguna otra banda adicional.

And this allowed me to get back to the beautiful city of Wroclaw and be present for the first time in the festival called Into The Abyss Fest III that brought together a lot of metal underground bands joined by some bands of those who came to the Netherlands Deathfest this year and joining them with other Polish bands and some other additional bands.

Desgraciadamente, los organizadores tuvieron que recortar el plantel de grupos debido a reajustes y reformas en la localización donde se realizaba el festival (Klub Pralnia) lo que nos dejo sin ver a grupos como Gnaw Their Tongues o Mentor y que le restó algo de esplendor al Festival.

Unfortunately, the organizers had to cut the amount of bands due to readjustments and reforms in the location where the festival was held (Klub Pralnia), which left us without seeing groups like Gnaw Their Tongues or Mentor and that affected Festival proposal.

Así que comenzaban los conciertos con el grupo polaco Warfist que toco sus temas que mezclaban black y thrash metal, seguramente mas inspirados en los clásicos del genero que en formulas actuales. Directos y sin contemplaciones.

So the concerts started with the Polish band Warfist that played their mixture of black and thrash metal, probably more inspired by the classics of the genre than any current monikers. Direct and without hesitation in their half hour time frame.

Tras ellos, era el momento de Auroch, también en formato de trio como el anterior grupo. Aquí ya se apreciaba un componente de un death mas técnico y con el guitarra como voz principal aunque muy secundado por el bajista dieron un concierto absolutamente devastador. 

After them, it was the time of Auroch, also in trio format as the previous nband. Here already a more technical death metal flavor was evident and with their guitar man as main vocals although well supported by the bassist they gave an absolutely devastating concert.

Hay veces que los tríos confirman que es posible arrasar tanto o mas que grupos mucho mas numerosos.

There are times when the trios confirm that it is possible to play as harder or even more than other bands with more members.

Un poco de descanso mientras cambiaban el backline de los grupos en uno de los muchos sitios para sentarse disponibles (cosa que fue muy de agradecer para muchos de los asistentes) y otro grupo completamente desconocido para mi y que me dejo muy asombrado.

A little rest while the bands were changing their backline o in one of the many places to sit available (which were very appreciated by the attendees) and another band completely unknown to me got their time to perform and they also left me astonished.

Rites Of Thy Degringolade se presentaban con varias formulas curiosas para mi. En primer lugar un música en la que se mezclaba un death metal técnico con una parte más cafre y, sobre todo, reseñar la aportación vocal de todos los componentes del cuarteto (de hecho, en mucho momentos, era mayor la aportación del percusista que lo que cualquiera pueda imaginarse).

Rites Of Thy Degringolade were presented with several curious specific for me (not only their name was special). In the first place, their music was based on technical death metal but mixed with a more brutal death parts that remembered me fellows like Nile. Secondly, their vocals were duty of all the members of the quartet. In many moments, the contribution of their percussionist was more evident than the rest of the band (specially during some intros between songs and some other parts.

Otro grupo que me dejo una grata impresión.

Another band that left me a pleasant impression.

Los polacos Kingdom eran muy esperados por la parroquia local, y la verdad es que no defraudaron. Me extrañó la disposición en escena con todo el grupo retirado de la parte frontal del escenario y pegados a la zona del batería. Supongo que seria un modo de proteger su equipo ya que no existía foso entre el publico y los grupos. Los he esta claro es que seguro que no estaban atemorizados porque ellos fueron los que nos apabullaron con su descarga de death y blast beats brutales.

The Polish band Kingdom were highly anticipated by the local parish, and the truth is that they didn’t disappoint them. I didn’t understand their placement on stage with the whole band step back from the front of the stage and glued to the drummer’s area. I guess it would be a way to protect your equipment as there was no photo pit between the public and the bands. But, for sure they weren’t afraid of us because they were the ones who overwhelmed us with their shock and brutal blast beats.

Muy buen concierto también el de Kingdom.

Very good concert also from Kingdom and their death metal.

Los italianos Hierophant dieron un concierto en el que primó la actitud agresiva. Con una música tal vez menos rápida que los anteriores grupos, sin embargo se vio que tenían la dinámica en los temas que les permitía y les exigía una mayor interacción con el publico.

The Italians Hierophant gave a concert in which their aggressive attitude prevailed. With a music perhaps less speedier than the previous bands and more atmospherical, however it was seen that they had the dynamics to allowed them and demanded a greater interaction with the public.

Aquí debo decir que me dio la impresión de ver al publico un poco apático a lo largo del festival y en este concierto se vio, en otra ocasiones seguro que se hubiese producido más movimiento en las primeras filas pero todos se mantuvo mas o menos calmado. Hierophant lo dio todo de su parte, el publico podemos decir que no tomo partido del mismo modo.

Here I must say that gave me the impression of seeing the public a little apathetic throughout the festival and in this concert that was seen really evident, other times in Poland I saw a lot more movement in the front rows but this time everyone remained more or less calm. Hierophant gave everything on their side, I must say that the public didn’t act in the same way.

Llegaba a continuación otro grupo curioso, Profanatica. Un grupo en el que solo cantaba el percusista (me recordaba en cierto modo a Absu) que seguramente tenia muchos mas seguidores entre el público.

Then came another curious band Profanatica, where only the percussionist sang (they reminded me in some way to Absu) that they probably had many followers among the audience.

A mi no me llegó tanto su actuación como la de otros grupos anteriores pero fue bastante aplaudido por la audiencia así que supongo que cumplió con las expectativas (del resto).

I didn’t manage to connect with their performance as much as other previous band but they were quite cheered by the audience so I guess they met the expectations (of the public).

La gran estrella de la velada era Vallenfyre y como tal se retrasaron en el comienzo, Gregor Mackintosh se quejo de las “putas luces” y nos quedamos con las ganas de sacarles unas fotos un poco mas claras.

The big star of the evening was Vallenfyre and as such they were delayed at the beginning, Gregor Mackintosh complained about the «fucking lights» and we had to deal with the darkness to take some pictures.

Eso si, la cera que dieron y el death crust que tocaron fue digno de recordar. Repasando temas de sus 3 discos, la verdad es que fue un concierto genial. Con una luz azul tenue y tocando a un volumen atronador, aquí si que se vio al publico darlo todo (a lo que les quedaban fuerzas).

But yes, the overwhelming sound avalanche they gave us and their mix of death, crust and punk they played was worth remembering. Reviewing songs from their 3 albums, the truth is that it was a great concert. With a soft blue light and playing at a thunderous volume, here the public was keen to give everything (or at least anyone who had strength).

Comentaron que estuvieron a punto de no llegar por problemas con los aviones (en el Netherlands Deathfest no llegaron a tocar por el bloqueo de las comunicaciones con la nieve) pero se mostraron satisfechos de la respuesta del publico, lo que creo que les ayudo a sobrellevar el cabreo.

They commented that they were on the verge of not arriving due to problems with the flaghts (in the Netherlands Deathfest didn’t manage to perform due to the blockade of the communications with the snow) but they were satisfied of the answer of the public, which I think that helped them to manage the hateful situation.

Podemos decir que tuvimos suerte por poder presenciar un gran concierto de Vallenfyre lleno de rabia y de buena música.

I can say that we were lucky to be able to see a great Vallenfyre concert full of rage and good music.

Para finalizar era el turno de Temple Desecration pero ya había decidido retirarme al hotel para descansar tras la descarga de Vallenfyre.

To finish the festival was the time of Temple Desecration but I had already decided to come back to the hotel to rest after the discharge of Vallenfyre.

Como un aspecto a mejorar, destacaría que solo una furgoneta para ofrecer hamburguesas en un festival en el que no se podía salir a la calle para buscar alternativas gastronómicas me pareció un poco limitado.

As an aspect to improve, I would emphasize that only a van to offer hamburgers at a festival where you couldn’t go out to look for some gastronomic alternatives seemed a bit limited.

En general, por todo lo demás, un buen festival. Mucho sitio de esparcimiento, bares disponibles con variedad en las bebidas y cervezas fuera de las más típicas y con mercadillo abundante que tuvo a mucha gente comprando y disfrutando del festival.

In general, for everything else, a good festival. A lot of entertainment, bars available with variety of drinks and some craft beers and with a nice flea market that had many people buying and enjoying the festival.

Muy interesante festival. Lo anoto como uno de los que hay que seguir e intentar estar en próximas ediciones.

Very interesting festival. I jus put it on my list to follow and to repeat in future editions.
